Banking on its huge success over the years, South Pasadena High sent senior Caitlyn Yamashita up the coast last weekend to play in the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.
A special event on the LPGA’s Champions Tour, the tournament is held at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hills Golf Course. Each foursome includes a Legends Tour Player, an accomplished junior player (age 15 to 18) and two paying amateurs.
This format is an opportunity for spectators to see past champions play alongside the future stars of the PGA and LPGA TOUR.
The Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach serves as an international showcase for The First Tee, an initiative to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
South Pasadena High’s golf program has been in existence since the fall of 2008 and the Tigers have been consistent champions in the Almont League.
“The past three seasons, and again this year Caitlyn Yamashita has been an instrumental part of the team and we’re really proud of her for reaching such a great pinnacle in her career thus far by being a part of the this tournament,” said the school’s principal Janet Anderson. “We’re happy to have her represent the sport and the school.”
