29

Graduates were presented certificates last Saturday for finishing the 5th Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic training class since it started in 2014. This Free 3-day training at the South Pasadena Fire Department teaches the following skills: Disaster psychology, fire suppression, triage, disaster medical, search and rescue techniques and more. Enroll online for February 2017 free CERT classes at City of South Pasadena community services/ CERT training. Fire officials say 95% of the time in an emergency individuals are helped by a neighbor, co-worker, or complete stranger. Will you know what to do? Below left, training teaches “cribbing” because during an earthquake it’s not uncommon for people to become trapped under debris. Below right, CERT teaches different types of “carries” to remove victims from danger.
