Construction of a new Blaze Pizza is currently underway at 1100 Fair Oaks Avenue, the former location of Blockbuster Video in the city. The property owner received approval for up to three tenants at the location. “It’s great to see some activity after construction was quiet for a couple of months,” said South Pasadena City Manager Sergio Gonzalez. “It seems to be moving forward with the tenant improvements that are needed for a new tenant. It’s encouraging to see work being done.” System-wide sales at Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza were up 83 percent to $185 million in 2016 over 2015, according to a company press release. The build-your-own pizza chain also projected system-wide sales this year — its fifth full year in business — to exceed $292 million. In five years, the company expects system-wide sales to exceed $1 billion, Jim Mizes, COO and president of Blaze Pizza, said in the release.
