Fire Department Officials Assist in Delivery of Baby

Called to Stratford Avenue Thursday Morning

A baby girl was welcomed into the world last Thursday morning by her mother and father inside a South Pasadena home in the 1100 block of Stratford Avenue, between Oxley Street and Monterey Road.

Joining in the celebration were members of the South Pasadena Fire Department, who  responded to an emergency call at the residence just before 5:30 a.m., following  the birth,   “When we got there, the baby had been delivered,” explained George Hoyos, a firefighter/paramedic with the South Pasadena Fire Department.

Hoyos said the baby was born a week early, but without complications. “We took care of mom and the baby before transporting them to the hospital.”

Giving birth was a 35-year-old woman, who was joined by her husband at Huntington Memorial Hospital.

“The baby is healthy and everyone is happy,” said Hoyos.

The name of the parents and baby remain anonymous. A visit was made to the home on Tuesday morning, but no one answered the door.
