Who doesn’t love going to the theater and being wildly entertained? The students of South Pasadena Middle School are working hard to bring you Mel Brooks’ monstrously funny musical comedy, “Young Frankenstein”.
The cast and crew, composed of over 60 SPMS students, have attended countless rehearsals over the past few months, working to perfect every song and dance to bring you a wildly funny musical that will leave you in stitches. SPMS drama teacher, Marion Tompkins has directed a number of productions and helped many students discover their love of theater for over 20 years. However, this is the first time she’s brought to life “Young Frankenstein”. Not only does Ms. Tompkins work with students on stage, she also encourages students to work and learn as part of the stage crew, thus expanding the roles for students to participate in this annual school event.
Based on the book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, with music and lyrics by Mel Brooks, this musical is known as one of Gene Wilder’s funniest performances as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein and was nominated for ten awards. With extraordinary tunes such as “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend,” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” Young Frankenstein is scientifically proven, exceptionally good entertainment.
Come join the South Pasadena Middle School Drama Department’s showing of “Young Frankenstein” on Friday, April 21; Saturday, April 22; and Sunday, April 23 in the South Pasadena Middle School Auditorium.
