Every March, when tryouts for the SPHS Pep squad roll around, the potential team members are repeatedly reminded that becoming a member of the SPHS Pep Squad is a HUGE commitment. Unlike other sports teams on campus, Pep’s season is year round. Pep not only cheers for Football and Basketball, but supports ALL sports teams on campus along with performing at all school events and participates in community service. We spend a lot of time together and we really start to become a “Family”. When asked, ‘Why did you try out again?’. Varsity Yell member and Sophomore Lexi Gomez replied, “I tried out for Pep again this year because I really enjoyed seeing how hard work paid off. It’s really rewarding to challenge yourself and succeed in the end. The sisterhood and strong friendships I made with my teammates also made me realize how important teamwork is.”
While everyone else is on summer vacation, Pep is hard at work practicing 4 days a week getting ready for the up coming sports seasons and school year. Along with learning dances and cheers, Pep has cardio and strength training every practice. Before Pep’s 2-a-day conditioning week, they all attend camp were they learn new material, polish up technique and participate in a competition. We received many awards at camp, including a first place trophy for Varsity Yell’s performance in the cheer competition. This years Pep Squad is extremely talented and hard working. Pep looks forward to seeing the Tiger Fans at ALL the sports and school events. GO TIGERS!
