Joan Shaw (above, with husband Ted) was surprised with a diamond ring for the new year by her daughter, Janet Benjamin, an official with the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee. Well, it was sort of a diamond ring.
Joan got the giant paper-mache ring that adorned the South Pas float in the recent Tournament of Roses Parade, along with a jumbo fountain pen and a few other pieces of pageantry (above). It was all dropped off at the Shaws’ front lawn over the weekend. The rest of the float will be taken apart starting Saturday. Ted Shaw, a former publisher of the Review, is a longtime civic leader and former president of the SPTOR.
