“Seussical Jr.” begins Young Stars Theatre’s second year in South Pas

After their successful first year in South Pasadena, Young Stars Theatre kicks off their second year on Friday, February 24th with Seussical Jr. Based on the beloved Dr. Seuss books, Seussical transports audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus. The Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Full of dancing, singing and Seussian characters, Seussical Jr. is fun for the whole family. As usual, YST’s production features two different all-youth casts, with some familiar faces and some faces new to the YST stage, from South Pasadena and all over the L.A. area. The show runs four weekends from February 24th through March 19th. Showtimes and ticket info can be found on their website, www.YoungStarsTheatre.org

Soon after Seussical closes, YST will bring another classic to the stage: Annie Jr. Auditions for this show will be held very soon! To be notified about audition times for Annie and future shows, you can get on their email list, also at www.YoungStarsTheatre.org

Coming this summer, YST is offering three summer musical theatre camps. The first is a one week camp culminating in one weekend of open to the public performances of Kids on Broadway, a revue of some of your favorite Broadway moments. The second is a two-week camp for the show Willy Wonka Jr. with two weekends of performances, and finally a three week camp, finishing with The Music Man and two weekends of performances. Fees will apply for camps (regular shows with YST have no fees for participants), but both work and need-based scholarships will be available.
