SPHS’s Cole Cahill Elected 70th State Youth Governor

The South Pasadena San Marino YMCA Model Legislature and Court delegation spent Presidents’ Day weekend at the program’s statewide conference in Sacramento. The program, which includes over 3,500 high school students from YMCAs all over the state, allows “delegates” to take on roles within a mock legislature and court in which they write proposals, debate bills, and try court cases. The culminating event of the Sacramento conference is the program’s final elections for statewide leadership positions for the following program year. Cole Cahill, a junior at South Pasadena High School, was elected as the 70th California Youth Governor for the 2017-18 program year. He is the second delegate in the last four years from the South Pasadena San Marino YMCA to be elected to this position – the highest office in the program.
