South Pasadena High took a commanding lead in the first half, stalled offensively in the third quarter but scored a huge touchdown in the closing minutes of the Fourth period Friday night to record a 35-20 victory over Rosemead in non-league play on the road. With the win, South Pas is now 1-0 on the season while Rosemead fell to 0-1.
The Tigers jumped out to a 20-8 lead at the half but Panthers closed the gap to 28-14 at the end of three quarters, and inched closer, making it a 28-20 contest with their final touchdown with 9:40 left in the fourth period.
That’s when the Tigers put their best drive together all night. Starting from their own 30, South Pas pushed the ball down field, held it for 12 plays as fireball running back Jalen Ross finished off the drive by going down the right sideline for the final 27 yards and the deciding score.
