Turn Back Time

Open since 2004, RejuvaYou offers the latest treatments that rejuvenate and transform the skin and body, helping clients improve their appearance as well as their internal health and youthfulness. Led by Dr. John Shieh, MD, the team at RejuvaYou is trained in the field of regenerative medicine and aesthetics, and are experts at treating all skin types and colors, including ethnic skin.

Dr. Shieh, a resident of South Pasadena, received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, then moved to California for his residency. After running a family practice for many years, he joined the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine in 2001 and in time began to offer various anti-aging treatments at his office next to Good Samaritan Hospital, before eventually opening RejuvaYou on Mission Street.

“What was fascinating to me was that unlike traditional medicine, we weren’t waiting for somebody to get sick and then patch up the illness,” Dr. Shieh said. “This was about taking people that were already healthy and helping them live healthier, better lives with natural solutions.”

Dr. Shieh was one of the first doctors in the United States to be certified and perform the FDA-approved Fotofacial RF skin rejuvenation treatment, which uses a bright pulsed light synergistically with radiofrequency electrical energy to affect the deep collagen to tighten skin and reduce wrinkles. Unlike traditional laser treatments, it doesn’t cause wounds and has no down time, offering dramatic improvement over previous intense pulsed light treatments.

He was also one of the first doctors to be certified on the ThreadLift non-invasive facelift procedure, which unlike traditional facelifts, doesn’t involve incisions. In addition to being ideal for lifting the skin, the temporary sutures created by threads combat aging by provoking the body’s healing response, which encourages production of collagen in the treated areas.

“People have called us the ‘anti-plastic surgery’ spa because our purpose is to help people avoid surgery while making their skin look healthier so that they don’t eventually need facelifts,” Dr. Shieh noted. “We offer different treatments that address different parts of aging, from discoloration and laxity to texture and volume. Not everyone needs Botox. We can actually intervene early, do less invasive treatments and people look better than before. That’s why we’re called RejuvaYou—it’s about rejuvenating you.”

Other skin treatments offered at RejuvaYou include the Sublative Skin Rejuvenation, which uses fractional technology to deliver focused fractional beams of laser energy combined synergistically with radiofrequency energy to directly remodel the collagen below wrinkles and acne scars; Refirme ST skin tightening treatment, which combines the best of bipolar radiofrequency energy and infrared energies to tighten skin, reduce wrinkles and build collagen; as well as the Triniti Skin Rejuvenation treatment, which is a 3-in-1 non-surgical procedure for skin tightening with Refirme, FotoFacial RF and the Matrix.

Known for his work with countless celebrities, Dr. Shieh performed the Triniti Skin Rejuvenation treatment on Kris Jenner for an episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and he also performed the LipoLite Laser Liposculpture treatment on professional dancer Shirley Ballas for an exclusive premiere on “Entertainment Tonight.”

Aside from skin rejuvenation treatments, Dr. Shieh is also renowned for his work in stem cell therapy and Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP), both of which he uses to treat a variety of physical ailments and conditions. Stem cell therapy uses either the body’s own stem cells or donor umbilical cord stem cells to regenerate and repair the body. It can be used to treat everything from weak joints and lung damage to arthritis, Parkinson’s, diabetes, and and cerebral palsy and autism.

“The stem cells go to the damaged area and help repair it,” Dr. Shieh said. “I’ve used stem cell therapy to treat all sorts of patients, from children with cerebral palsy to adults with Parkinson’s disease. I helped a female firefighter reverse a bad case of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, which was caused by smoke burning her lungs. I successfully treated a young boy who suffered seizures and brain damage from nearly drowning in a swimming pool. I have children fly in from around the world to seek treatment for their cerebral palsy and all of them experience significant improvement in their conditions.”

Dr. Shieh also performs PRP therapy, which uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets, to treat joints, reverse the effects of arthritis and even treat male pattern baldness. He also offers feminine rejuvenation, which helps reverse the effects of childbirth or natural aging. RejuvaYou is one of the pioneers of ThermiVa, a non-invasive, non-ablative treatment that delivers radiofrequency energy to stimulate blood flow and collagen, restore elasticity, and treat sexual dysfunction.

“Our purpose is to better the lives of people,” Dr. Shieh said. “We’re trying to affect people in a positive way, and in our case, it’s seeing people walk out the door with more confidence and a different attitude about themselves and towards the world. And the other rewarding part is working with the kids and seeing their lives change. It helps ground you and puts everything back into perspective. It’s about transforming and enriching the lives of others, making each person that walks in the door healthier and happier.”
