Grace Markus scored six goals to help lead the South Pasadena High School varsity girls’ water polo team past visiting Monrovia, 16-5, during a Rio Hondo League game on Monday.
Luna Encinas scored four goals, Nadia Cho and Cleopatra Walker had two goals each, and Jaela Reed and Elizabeth Petty finished with one goal each. Goalie Reese Buckley had a fine afternoon by recording a team-high seven saves in three quarters of action.
South Pasadena (3-4 league record, 3-5 overall) is scheduled to conclude league action by visiting Blair High of Pasadena on Friday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m. With only two league games left, the third-place Tigers are unlikely to gain any ground on league-leading Temple City (8-1 in league) or La Cañada (7-1 in league) before the end of the regular season this week.

South Pasadena lost a league rematch at La Cañada last Thursday, Jan. 27, as Markus led with three goals, Encinas scored twice and Petty finished with one goal.
