Fifth grade students from all three South Pasadena Unified School District elementary schools came together this past weekend for in-person performances of “Seussical Jr.” at the South Pasadena High School auditorium.
The annual Fifth Grade Musical is part of South Pasadena Educational Foundation’s Afterschool Program and is a South Pasadena tradition. Productions are self-sustaining with staff and expenses covered by ticket sales and student tuition.
New this year, the High School Production team added a livestream option, with grandparents, family and friends join from as far away as London and Japan. The LED curtain used in the show stopping “Solla Sollew” was funded, in part, by a grant from the Pasadena Showcase House and the SPHS Music Boosters.
The show was made possible by the Upstage Theatre Schools team of Adrian Cohen, Jason Currie, Debra Lee, Alison Smith, Tara and Faith Kawakami. For more information on Upstage Programs, visit upstageschools.com/.
The set was made by Mr. Jontz’s High School Stage Production class. Also contributing to the success of the production were parent volunteers and the approximately 100 hours from the Lion’s Heart Service Organizaation’s 7-11th-grade groups.
