The South Pasadena High School varsity boys’ volleyball team secured second place in the Rio Hondo League standings by sweeping host Monrovia, 26-24, 25-20, 26-24, on Tuesday.
Junior Nick Chabot led with 10 kills, six digs and five blocks, while junior Aidan Hilger amassed nine kills and nine digs. Junior Declan Swift collected six kills, eight blocks and three digs, junior Aaron Quan tallied 14 assists, three kills and four digs, and senior Michael Favela finished with two kills, five blocks and three digs.
Freshman James Dowd registered one kill and three blocks, junior Kenny McGregor had one kill, sophomore Kai Munoz posted 22 digs and one ace, and sophomore Ian Chang recorded seven digs, 16 assists and one ace. Seniors Tony Rodz and Albert Cruz notched nine and four digs, respectively, while junior Cyrus Hulme produced one block.
The Tigers (19-14 overall record, 7-2 in league) completed the regular season by hosting Gabrielino High of San Gabriel in a league game yesterday; the result was unavailable by the South Pasadena Review’s press deadline.
SPHS 3, CATHEDRAL 1
The Tigers dominated visiting Cathedral High of Los Angeles, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-17, in a nonleague match on Monday.
Hilger led with 21 kills, eight blocks and 17 digs, while Chabot amassed 13 kills, four blocks and eight digs. Swift added 10 kills and 15 blocks, Quan collected five kills, 14 digs and 22 assists, and Favela posted three kills and 11 blocks. Dowd registered two kills and nine blocks, McGregor produced one kill three blocks, Munoz tallied 22 digs, six assists one ace, and Chang notched 22 assists and one ace.
