Elementary students were eager to learn about tortilla making at the Monterey Hills Cinco de Mayo Celebration last Thursday.
Prior to their lunch period, classes heard about how to grind corn and mix the ingredients to make the dough. Students then had the opportunity to press their own tortilla and sample the finished result.
As an extra treat, they had a choice of fun designs for colorful paint tattoos. Many embraced the spirit of the day with festive cloths, while the Spanish immersion classes practiced their fluency and learned more about a culinary staple in Mexican culture.
