More than 20 businesses in South Pasadena and neighboring cities have agreed to donate food and other items for next week’s annual celebration of school staff at Monterey Hills Elementary.

A parent-led committee of the MHS PTA has reached out to restaurants and shops over the past couple months to support brunch-time celebrations of teachers, administrators, aides, janitors and crossing guards, a total of more than 80 people.

Serena Viharo, one of the parents on the committee, said of the weeklong celebration, “it is so important to recognize the entire staff for everything they do for our children. So many of these businesses have been so generous and willing to contribute.”

This year’s staff appreciation week is themed “You Are My Sunshine”. Students will kick off the celebrations Friday afternoon by writing messages on flower-shaped paper cutouts and attaching them to teachers’ doors.

Monday will kick off with catering courtesy of Crepe Studio in Pasadena and Charlie’s Coffee in South Pas.
