Since Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) closed its doors seven months ago, former customers and local residents have been eagerly anticipating what’s next — and finally, the wait is over. On July 3, Ace Hardware will open in the former OSH location on Fair Oaks Avenue in South Pasadena.

“I’m excited to see familiar faces back in our store,” said Carlos Andrade, general manager for Ace. “We can’t wait to be able to help the community with their needs. It’s amazing to see what we can do with our new store opening as the possibilities are endless. It’s a great feeling to be able to open the doors again and provide great service to customers.”

An OSH employee for 25 years, Andrade spent the past decade as store manager until the business closed last summer. In his new role with Ace, Andrade will oversee a team of 60 store associates, and has been busy ensuring that everything is in order for the store’s opening next week.

“When one door closes, another opens,” Andrade said. “I was able to hire some of my former OSH associates at the new Ace location, which is making this transition so much easier. Ace is a company that believes in a good work-life balance, and we’re all about the culture. We make sure that we do everything with integrity and excellence. The bottom line at the end of the day is that we want our customers to leave our building with everything they came in here for and then some.”

The new Ace location will be one of the company’s “super stores” due to its massive size and expanded merchandise categories and product offerings — including a larger pet-supply section, barbecue and patio equipment, hardware and tools, paint, kitchen and garden nursery essentials and more.

The store will also carry a lot of additional brands such as Milwaukee and STIHL, and customers will be able to order items in larger quantities. Other services offered will include an Ace delivery van, sharpening services for lawn-mower blades and scissors, a repair shop for STIHL products, a repotting table service, as well as the ability to purchase products online and pick them up at the store.

To celebrate its official opening, Ace will host a “wood cutting” ceremony on Aug. 30, and the all-day event will include numerous vendors, taco trucks, pet clinics, and other fun promotions and giveaways throughout the day.

“I want to personally invite everybody into the store, and I’d be more than happy to introduce myself when they come in,” Andrade said. “This is a needed business in the community — it’s a place where customers can come in and we’re able to help them complete their projects and fulfill their needs. Our team is excited to continue to provide that legendary service and experience to our customers, and we want to let our community know that we’re here to support them.”
