South Pasadena will be abuzz for Saturday’s 10th annual Eclectic Music Festival & Art Walk. The Art Walk portion of the event will exhibit the community’s creativity through a slate of activities put on by shops and restaurants throughout the business district.

The Art Experience, presented by SPACE, is a large-scale art installation created by architect and designer Stephen Hsiao and titled “Have You Seen Him?” It transforms South Pasadena’s emblematic sculpture “Astride, Aside” (The Walking Man) into an interactive artwork of light, shadow and magic. Next to the installation, there will be a free Family Activity from 5 – 8 p.m., where everyone can make art collages and haikus to express diversity and neighborly love in our community.

The Artwalk also boasts numerous local galleries, studios and merchants that are opening their doors for a day of festivities. Everything from a wheel of fortune, to pop-up vinyl stores, to the latest in 3D Printing will be featured at the festival.

SPARC Gallery at the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce will present a reception for “Frame Story,” the complex paintings of Carolie Parker, from 6 – 8 p.m. Sugarmynt Gallery will feature a group show entitled “Poison and Prophecy,” plus music and a raffle.

Rosebuds & Rosestuds will host a range of fun activities for all ages. Proprietor Serena Viharo will welcome RicRoks Tattoos for adults, plus face painting, henna, a children’s jam session, and sketch art by Pierre Michel, all from 3 – 9 p.m.

Ellen’s Silkscreening, Embroidery and Promotional Products is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a chance to meet some of the store’s designers and a “Wheel of Fortune” where visitors can spin for prizes, from 3 – 9 p.m. On the same block, Kidd’s Jewelry Heist presents a pop-up vinyl store with a DJ and a jewelry making activity from 3 – 10 p.m. Getting into the event’s music theme, Two Kids Coffee also is offering a record pop-up, hosted by longtime vinyl merchants, from 3 – 9 p.m.

In addition to live music, Vavé Studios will offer artisan items and free flower bracelet making. Hotbox Vintage, at its new location at 1127 Mission St. (enter through the alley), will have a live DJ, complimentary drinks and 3D printed accessories from 3 – 8 p.m. Next door is Nexusplex, which hosts an Open Studio and Art Show, “Mediums as Media | Text-Photo-Print-Graphics,” from 4 – 10 p.m.
