A community fixture for more than 30 years, M&M Action Towing is the only towing company located in South Pasadena. Owner and manager Alireza Jabalameli runs the business along with his uncle Mike Jabalameli. Over 40 years ago, Alireza’s father Majid Jabalameli moved to the United States from Iran with his brother, Hamid Jabalameli (known to everyone as “Mike”). When they bought the business it was called “Action Towing,” so they added ‘”M&M” to the title to represent their first names.

When Alireza was a student at South Pasadena High School, he spent the summers of his junior and senior year working for his father and uncle, gaining field experience by going out on the road and assisting the tow-truck drivers by performing tasks such as changing tires.

After graduating from SPHS in 2012, Alireza attended California State University Channel Islands, where he received his degree in communication with an emphasis in business. He ran his own marketing firm for a while before eventually joining the family business full-time.

“When I graduated from college two years ago, I didn’t have plans to come and work here—it was more a matter of perfect timing,” Alireza said. “My father retired and passed the keys over to my uncle, who is my business partner and mentor who teaches me everything. I realized it was a good opportunity and I was looking for more responsibility and the chance to progress and grow.”

M&M Action Towing is an American Automobile Association contract station, and a majority of calls Alireza receives are to request roadside assistance. Customers needing a tow, tire change or other services can call 24 hours a day and a driver will be sent out to help them.

“AAA has designated areas and our operation area runs from Fremont Avenue and Main Street all the way up to the 210 Freeway,” Alireza explained. “We have six active trucks per day that go around and everything is set up through a digital system with AAA. After we receive the call and information, we send everything over to the driver. It’s all done through a tablet and computer.”

In addition to the work they do with AAA, M&M Action Towing is also contracted with the Pasadena Police Department and has been working with the South Pasadena Police Department, servicing everything from DUIs and accidents to impounds.

“We’re just here to help the community out,” Alireza said. “We have a long-standing relationship with the people in this town and they know who to call when they need help. I enjoy the challenges and I take great pride in helping my family and growing this business. Our goal is for our customers to be totally satisfied. AAA holds us to that standard and we hold our drivers to that standard. We are also looking to expand our business by adding a second location in the future somewhere in the surrounding area, but we don’t ever plan on leaving South
