In a rough-and-tumble battle between last year’s Rio Hondo League (RHL) water polo champs and the So Pas varsity boys’ squad, the Tigers took the match Tuesday afternoon and are the new league champions, the first such accomplishment for the local squad in several years.

The boys varsity water polo squad beat Temple City (TC), 8-5, to take the league crown away from them. Temple City was water polo league champions last year.

The Tigers still have one more league match tomorrow against Monrovia but even if they lose that contest, their record is the best in league. Today they are 7-0 and have beaten TC twice, who are now 5-2.

“It’s been a very tough year but I am so proud of these guys,” Head Coach Michael Gonzales said after the match. “I am just so proud of these guys.”
