Located at the corner of North San Marino Drive and West Leslie Drive in San Gabriel, Gazebo Gifts is the perfect place to go when you need a gift for someone. Whether it’s a hostess gift or a present for a co-worker, Gazebo offers a wide selection of one-of-a-kind items for customers to browse and shop.

Owner Dona Quinones is originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., and has worked in the retail industry for more than 30 years. Prior to opening Gazebo Gifts last year, she owned Just Got 2 Have It in Long Beach. That store specialized in kitchen and houseware items.

“This is my first venture for all types of gifts, but I’ve been in the retail business a long time,” Quinones said.

“I love to cook, so when I first started out I thought I’d do something in retail with kitchen gadgets and gourmet tools. In addition to my Long Beach store, I sold under Kitchen Gadgets Plus at the state and county fairs every summer for years. I liked the idea of the local corner store business. There was a gift store here before, so it just lent itself for me to open up a gift store.”

Gazebo Gifts sells a variety of items that appeal to a wide audience, ranging from candles and jewelry to Christmas decorations and garden flags. Quinones is currently branching out to carry more locally sourced products, and she also sells a unique line of bags made of recycled canvas and leather from various military units around the world.

“The focus here is still on home decor, kitchen items and hostess gifts, which people are always looking for,” Quinones said. “All of our Christmas items do really well, and we also sell a lot of garden items and wind chimes. I’ve added some soy candles and soaps from a good company in England. Another line I carry that does really well is Loungefly’s Disney backpacks, which we exclusively sell in this area. We change up our store display every few months.”

The store has numerous different sections that are organized by interest and type, including a wedding section with gifts for newlyweds, a sports section, pet section and a funny section that has coasters, humorous office signs and other items intended to draw laughs.

There is also an entire wall of socks with various designs on them, as well as home decor inspired by HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gaines. Gazebo Gifts also offers complimentary gift wrapping for all customers.

“We really tried to make this place a true gift store where anybody at any age will find something,” said Quinones.

“I think it’s important to still have that little shop on the corner in this day and age that people can go to where they can feel and touch everything before they buy it and still have that fun experience.

“Gift shops are a dying breed. We’ve had a wonderful reception, and I really like all of the people here — I already know most of them and their families. They’re very into embracing local shopping and supporting their community, which is what it’s all about.”

Gazebo Gifts is located at 323 North San Marino Ave. in San Gabriel. It is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and closed on Sundays. Its holiday hours are Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Dec. 24.  For more information, call (626) 545-2717 or visit gazebogiftshop.com.
