South Pasadena Police are asking the public’s help in solving an armed robbery that occurred July 9 after the victim returned home and was faced with a man pointing a chrome revolver at him.

The victim, who police declined to identify, returned home at just before midnight Monday, July 9, when he was followed into his garage by two male suspects wearing red hooded sweatshirts. One of the suspects pointed the chrome, silver colored revolver at the victim, demanding the victim’s wallet, according to South Pasadena Police Det. Mike Sanchez.

While the two suspects were rousting the victim of $200 in cash, several credit cards, and a mini iPad another suspect was standing outside the garage acting as a lookout, Sanchez said.

After the two suspects rob the victim at gunpoint, they ordered him to close the garage door behind them. The suspects later tried to make an unauthorized transaction.

“We have no video,” Sanchez said during a telephone interview. “We have no leads. We have no suspects. We need the public’s help.”

Sanchez said it’s possible that these three suspects have tried this same type of armed robbery recently in San Marino and Alhambra.

“We are in the process now of trying to determine if that’s true,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez had some cautionary notes for So Pas residents as well.

“Just because you are at home, doesn’t mean that you are safe,” Sanchez said. “Always be aware of your surroundings and if you have high bushes that could block the line of sight, consider cutting them back. Install motion-sensor lighting.”

Sanchez said that living in South Pasadena with its “low crime rate” can give people a false sense of security.

“We have a great community here and it is safe, but don’t let that give you a false sense of security,” Sanchez said. “This kind of crime can happen anywhere. It can happen here. Be aware. Lock your doors. If you see anything, report it immediately.”

Police described suspect one as a male black, 5ft. 9 in., medium build, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt; suspect two is also a male black 5 ft. 9 in. medium build, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt; and suspect three is also a male black 5 ft. 9 in. medium build, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

If anyone has any information regarding this robbery, they are encouraged to call Det. Mike Sanchez at (626) 403-7282.
