The South Pasadena High School girls’ varsity volleyball team got back on the winning track with a convincing sweep over Temple City on Tuesday by the scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-20.
The Tigers, who are ranked No. 3 in the San Gabriel Valley after a loss to La Cañada in their previous match, improved their Rio Hondo League record to 4-1 (30-6 overall).
“We played well; we executed well,” said SPHS coach Ivy Chew. “It was a team effort; all the girls played really well. It wasn’t a single player; the whole team stood out.”
Abby Garner led the Tigers statistically with 11 kills, 11 digs and three aces. Jenna Garner contributed eight kills, 11 digs and two aces; Ally Sokolow had seven digs; Kendall Taylor had six digs and three aces; and Ingrid Zahn registered seven kills, six digs and one ace. Teammate Helena Foord notched 10 kills and two digs, Samantha Molina had five digs and two aces, Kennedy Taylor contributed three kills, Mia Ramos had two digs, Evelyn Dowd had one kill and one dig, and Ava Dorny registered one kill.
South Pasadena plays at Monrovia this coming Tuesday before its crucial match against league-leading La Cañada on Wednesday, Oct. 13. The match against the Spartans begins at 5 p.m. at SPHS, with the winner likely earning at least a share of the league championship.
