Recent heavy rains caused power outages and fallen trees in several areas of South Pasadena. Above, a would-be shopper walks past the powerless Pavilions market on Fair Oaks Avenue on Thursday morning. Pavilions and nearby Vons briefly saw employees working in the dark with flashlights and turning away customers.
South Pas police said the power went out around 5 a.m. Thursday, mostly affecting homes and businesses in the Mission District and south to Alhambra. Traffic lights were also hit, but power returned around 8:20 a.m., as officers were still posting stop signs at affected intersections, police said. No traffic accidents were reported.
Several large trees also came down overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning — the biggest in the 2000 block of Stratford Avenue, blocking traffic before Public Works employees could clear it away and restore traffic flow.
